Ben & Kerry were big fans of this song and downloaded it one night a while back at my place when we were partying. A couple days ago, I ran across it by accident (hooray for random!) and the rawkitude struck me. It’s a hilarious song and has been cracking me up thoroughly for the past couple days.

As often happens, I discover music when somebody else covers it.
In this case, Phish played Rhinoceros back in the summer of ’98 as a one-off cover. I believe I got the show not long after that, and listened to it once; I remember thinking the song was kind of slow and boring and seemed like a stupid cover.
Recently, I decided to throw together a compilation of songs Phish has covered (this Phish versions), and it came up again. Since I had last heard it, I had heard the Smashing Pumpkins version once or twice. On second listen of the Phish version, I recognized it and liked it.
Now, listening to the Smashing Pumpkins version for the 12th time or so, I LOVE IT. It’s a great song.
In fact, I’ve developed sort of a thing for the Smashing Pumpkins lately. I listened to Siamese Dream a few times last week. Right now, I’m giving what is maybe my second honest listen to the full album, Gish, and like it a lot.
