Movie Review: Bart Got A Room

Sunday, July 26th, 2009

So I randomly downloaded this movie the other day based on the poster and Wikipedia synopsis:

“]The film chronicles nerdy high school senior Danny Stein (Kaplan) and his unsuccessful attempts to secure a prom date while his divorced father and mother (played by Macy and Hines respectively) are on their own unsuccessful quests to find love. The films name comes from the fact that the schools biggest dweeb, Bart Beeber (Williams) not only secured a date for the prom, but got a hotel room after as well. This is a source of tremendous great anxiety for both Danny and his family. [1]

That synopsis is astoundingly accurate.  I sort of expected the movie to be somewhat similiar to American Pie, but as it turns out, it’s much much more tame.  Which isn’t to say it’s a bad movie… it’s actually pretty good.   Although, the main point of the movie seems to be about being a good Jew.  At the end, the kid decides to go to a barmitzvah with his parents rather than go to the prom.

Catching Up

Sunday, July 19th, 2009

Oh, hai!

Yeah, so blogging has not so much been going on in the last few weeks, eh?  I will try and catch you up on all the happenings:

Over the 4th of July weekend, Meghan & I went down to Savannah to visit her parents.  It was the first time since they moved there that we’ve visited in the summer.  Needless to say, it was a hot.  Although it didn’t feel as hot as I thought it would have.  We had a fun time.  We took a boat ride, a couple golf cart rides, went to the pool a couple times… at the time, I was excited to chronicle the trip in blog form, but it’s been three weeks now and I haven’t gotten around to it yet.  Suffice it to say we had a good time.  Meghan’s got some nice pictures up.

The most blog-worthy part of the Savannah trip in my mind was seeing the 4 of July fireworks on the golf course.  Driving into a sea of golf carts is a surreal experience.  Meghan commented on how it was like going to the lot at Phish, except with golf carts.

The following Saturday, we went to the Basilica Block Party with Melissa & Mark and Mark’s roommate.  Theoretically, we were there to see the Counting Crows, although I have a sneaking suspicion and that Meghan may have been the only one who really liked the Counting Crows.  We had a fun time hanging out in the beautiful weather, though.  We saw Tim Mahoney and some other guy who’s name I don’t remember.  None of the music was all that good, to be honest.  Meghan said later that she was really disappointed in the Counting Crows.   All-in-all, we had fun, though.

And last Sunday I went golfing with B33n3r & T-Rav.  T-Rav & I tied for first place at 16 over par.  Ben was 21 over par.  LOL

Pretty much the rest of the time has been spent working.  Oy.
