The plan

So, apparently February is a big month for home recording. Somebody came up with the idea to challenge people to write and record an entire album in a month, and B33n3r and T-Rav have both answered the call. I originally decided not to do it, because I didn’t think it’d be possible for me. Then I entertained the idea, and, taking a page from T-Rav’s playbook, wrote out small outline for what my album would be, including a title (I Worked For A Whole Month And All I Got Was This Lousy Album), 10 song titles (which included such gems as Oh Man, This Torchwood Episode Is Awesome (Except For All The Homoeroticism)I Should Probabaly Blog About This and Holy Shit, It’s Over), and lyrics to one song.
But the reality remains that my almost-perfectionism prevents me from being able to complete such a project. The only reason I even entertained the idea was that I was resigning myself to the idea that every single song on the thing would well and truly suck. But in my mind, that in and of itself is really reason enough to not do it. (B33n3r and T-Rav are talented enough to manage 10 songs or 35 minutes of recorded material in a month that does not well and truly suck. The sad truth is I need a minimum of one week per song.)
So, I’ve come up with a plan. Since I have been working on a Kathetor album for well over two years now, it’s high time I finish the damn thing. I’ve found a routine that fits my neuroticism about recording, and I seem to have enough inspiration to actually do it. Also, since I only need two more songs, and I already have two solid riffs recorded, all I really need to do is flesh out two songs (by which I mean, write lyrics, record vocals, and arrange), and then mix everything. My goal is to have it completely in the bag by March 1st, at which point I will put together artwork, etc, create a copy to send to CDBaby, and get that shit up for sale on iTunes.
The only hitch so far in my plan is that I’ve been listening to a lot of Atmosphere this week, and I have an overwhelming urge to rap, so I have a feeling the last two Kathetor songs may end up rhyming really well, but not be very melodicly interesting vocal-wise. We’ll see.
